Products/services: Research and development (R&D) in the fields of acoustics, energy efficiency, indoor climate, hygiene and sensor technology, building material recycling and hygrothermics: Products, processes and services analyzed from ecological, economic, social and technical points of view and assessing them from a holistic perspective. High-performance laboratories and testing facilities, the largest known outdoor test site, modern laboratory measurement technology and calculation methods, as well as a flight laboratory that is unique in the world with an aircraft segment in a low-pressure chamber and investigations in model rooms distinguish the Fraunhofer IBP. The institute is approved by the German building inspection authorities for testing, monitoring and certifying building products and construction types Europe. Four of the institute’s test laboratories have been granted flexible accreditation body Deutsche Akkreditierungsstelle GmbH (DAkkS) according to DIN EN ISO/IEC 17025. Profile/competences
Core competencies
R&D work in the fields of acoustics, energy efficiency, indoor climate, hygiene and sensor technology, building materials recycling and hygrothermics, as well as current topics such as new working environments, digitalization and Building Information Modeling (BIM). In addition, there are disciplines such as sustainable materials, modular construction, preventive conservation or monument protection. Insights gained are not only incorporated into buildings and construction elements; they also inspire developments in plant engineering and extend the application of building physics expertise to neighboring fields in the automotive and aerospace industries. The connection to the regional industry offers a maximum of presence of the respective expertise. The institute conducts application-oriented research in cooperation with the Chair of Building Physics at the Technical University of Munich and the Institute of Acoustics and Building Physics (IABP) at the University of Stuttgart.

Cooperation offers
Fraunhofer IBP's national and international reputation is due not least to its cross-border collaboration with other research institutes, associations and project partners and its involvement in numerous cooperative ventures. Collaboration can also take place within the framework of classic contract research as well as in publicly funded projects. For example, the institute's staff are involved in performance and competence centers, are involved in many national and international committees and bodies, and develop new building materials, components and building systems together with partners from industry. These collaborations serve, for example, to bring new and environmentally compatible products to market. Fraunhofer IBP's contractual partners in this field are companies from the construction industry, mechanical and plant engineering, public and private construction research organizations and architects.
