Products/services: LSTM contributes to the development of experimental and numeric analyses of flow mechanics and uses them in basic research projects, for the solution of practical flow problems as well as for industrial use. In many fields generally applicable measuring systems and analyses can be used. Hot wire and laser-doppler-anemometry, particle image velocimetry complemented by Phase-Doppler-Anemometry and liquid cristal thermography, are applied for experimental investigations with regard to detailed questions of the flow mechanics. The gained knowledge forms the basis for the advancement of theoretical and numerical processes which are applied complementary to the experimental techniques. Highly efficient computer programs which arose from own developments form an additional important focus of research by applying numerical, cognitive and hybrid methods. Additionally, measurement techniques are developed, based upon novel methods of data processing and knowledge extraction. Profile/competences
Core competencies
Research includes experimental, theoretical and numerical treatment of tasks in mechanical and process engineering, food technology, biotechnology and medical technology regarding specific points of view of fluid mechanics and thermofluid dynamics. This contains: combustion in porous media, flows in fans, aerodynamics, high pressure processes of biological matter in reactors with one and two phase flows, automation of processes in food and biotechnology, intra-oral flows, aeroacoustic considerations of substitute voice phonation, fluid mechanical investigations of aneurysms, construction of infusion devices and respirators, capillary hydrodynamics: calculation of flows with free surfaces with respect to surface tension (capillarity), passive and active flow control of turbulent flows including drag reduction, flow processes with phase boundary (e.g. Czochralski-process of crystal growth). Optimization of biotechnological processes. Simulation of the production of nanomaterials.
